Mattress Protector Water Resistant Buying Guide for 2026
Choosing the right mattress protector water resistant is about more than just picking a familiar brand. In this guide, we break down the essential criteria we used to shortlist the best models in October 2026. Use these factors to narrow down your own choice, whether you need maximum waterproofing, a plush sleep surface, or a cover that fits an extra-deep mattress.
Waterproofing Technology
The core job of a mattress protector water resistant is to block liquids. The most common waterproof membrane is a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) layer laminated to the underside or sandwiched between soft fabrics. TPU is flexible, quiet, and durable, unlike older vinyl or PVC layers that can crack or crinkle.
Look for a true waterproof barrier rather than just water-resistant materials. Products like the BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector and the GOPOONY Waterproof Mattress Protector Queen Size use upgraded TPU layers that prevent urine, sweat, and spills from reaching the mattress. A zippered encasement, such as the Zippered Queen Mattress Protector, offers six-sided protection and is especially useful for bed bug prevention.
Material and Comfort
The surface fabric determines how your mattress protector water resistant feels every night. Cotton terry offers a soft, absorbent, and familiar mattress feel, which is why the SafeRest Waterproof Queen Size Mattress Protector and the Bedecor Queen Waterproof Mattress Protector are so popular. Cotton blends are also naturally breathable and gentle on sensitive skin.
For a cooler and silkier feel, bamboo viscose is an excellent choice. The PlushDeluxe Bamboo Waterproof Mattress Protector uses bamboo-derived fabric that wicks moisture and helps regulate temperature. If you prefer a quilted, padded surface, the BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector adds a classic quilted design that locks in filling for even support and a touch of cushioning. For a deeper look at allergy-friendly bedding, see our best allergy mattress cover guide.
Fit and Deep Pockets
A mattress protector water resistant only works if it stays in place. Fitted styles rely on deep pockets and elastic edges to accommodate modern mattresses, many of which are 12 to 18 inches thick. Some covers, like the GOPOONY Waterproof Mattress Protector Queen Size, fit mattresses up to 21 inches, while the Bedsure Twin XL Mattress Protector handles depths up to 22 inches.
Look for 360-degree elastic skirts or full elastic bands to prevent slipping and bunching. The BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector uses a 360-degree elastic skirt that stays secure even on adjustable bases. For an encasement-style fit, the Zippered Queen Mattress Protector completely wraps around the mattress with a zipper for total coverage.
Breathability and Noiselessness
Many people avoid mattress protector water resistant because they worry it will feel like plastic. However, modern waterproof protectors use membrane technology that blocks liquids while allowing air to circulate. TPU layers are much quieter than older vinyl, and when sandwiched between soft fabrics, they produce no crinkling sounds during sleep.
The GOPOONY Waterproof Mattress Protector Queen Size is a great example, featuring 3D air fabric for enhanced breathability and a noiseless experience. Similarly, the PlushDeluxe Bamboo Waterproof Mattress Protector promises a completely silent, smooth surface that stays cool through the night. Always check if the product is specifically labeled noiseless before buying.
Ease of Cleaning and Care
Since the whole point of a mattress protector water resistant is to absorb accidents and spills, easy washing is essential. Almost all of our shortlisted protectors are machine washable and can be tumble dried on low. Look for covers that resist staining and do not require ironing or bleaching.
The BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector and the SafeRest Waterproof Queen Size Mattress Protector both machine wash easily and hold up well after repeated cleaning. The GORILLA GRIP Washable Underpads are tested up to 300 washes, making them a durable, reusable alternative for bedwetting, kids, or pets.
Certifications and Safety
If you have allergies or sensitivities, look for certifications such as OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which ensures the fabric has been tested for harmful substances. The Bedsure Twin XL Mattress Protector and the GORILLA GRIP Washable Underpads both carry this certification, giving you peace of mind.
For a chemical-free option, the CleanRest Waterproof Mattress Fitted Sheet is engineered without harmful chemicals and uses a MicronOne allergen barrier. If you are shopping for a child with eczema or asthma, choosing certified and chemical-free materials should be a top priority.

The GOPOONY Waterproof Mattress Protector Queen Size and the BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector both feature noiseless construction with soft fabric surfaces that do not crinkle under your sheets.
Can a mattress protector water resistant protect against bed bugs?
Yes, but only if you choose a zippered encasement that fully covers the mattress. The Zippered Queen Mattress Protector is a six-sided encasement with a zipper, which traps existing bed bugs and prevents new ones from entering. Fitted protectors are not designed for bed bug protection.
How often should I wash my mattress protector water resistant?

Products like the SafeRest Waterproof Queen Size Mattress Protector and the BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector are designed for frequent washing without losing their waterproof properties.
What is the difference between a mattress pad and a mattress protector water resistant?
A mattress pad is primarily for added cushioning and comfort, while a mattress protector water resistant is designed to block liquids and stains. Many modern protectors combine both functions. For example, the BEDLORE Waterproof Mattress Protector adds a quilted layer of comfort while still offering complete waterproof protection.
