The standard US shower curtain is 72 × 72 in. Stall showers use narrower curtains, and tall or ceiling-mounted rods need extra-long sizes such as 84 in or longer. Measure from the rod to a few inches below the tub edge.
- Fabric curtains (polyester, cotton or linen) look more decorative; polyester dries fastest. Use them with a liner unless they are water-repellent.
- PEVA and EVA liners are a chlorine-free alternative to PVC vinyl and usually have less chemical smell.
- Weighted hems and magnets keep liners from billowing in.
- Clawfoot tubs often need a wraparound curtain or two curtains on an oval rod.
Most fabric curtains and many liners can be machine washed on a gentle cycle (check the care label). Spread the curtain out after each shower so it dries, which slows mildew. For rods and hooks, see shower curtain rods and hooks.
