Shower Curtains & Liners Buying Guide

The standard US shower curtain is 72 × 72 in. Stall showers use narrower curtains, and tall or ceiling-mounted rods need extra-long sizes such as 84 in or longer. Measure from the rod to a few inches below the tub edge.

  • Fabric curtains (polyester, cotton or linen) look more decorative; polyester dries fastest. Use them with a liner unless they are water-repellent.
  • PEVA and EVA liners are a chlorine-free alternative to PVC vinyl and usually have less chemical smell.
  • Weighted hems and magnets keep liners from billowing in.
  • Clawfoot tubs often need a wraparound curtain or two curtains on an oval rod.
